Constellation and Walmart have entered into a strategic long-term agreement to advance the use of reliable, emissions-free nuclear energy in Illinois. Beginning in 2023, Walmart will procure energy generated from Constellation’s Byron nuclear power plant to power numerous Walmart and Sam’s Club facilities throughout the state. Terms of this collaboration aim to significantly reduce carbon emissions by approximately 321,000 metric tons annually, equivalent to removing nearly 70,000 gasoline-powered vehicles from the road each year.
This agreement underscores both companies’ commitment to sustainability and clean energy initiatives. Through such partnerships, Constellation aims to provide clean energy solutions that align with corporate sustainability goals and contribute to broader environmental benefits. By leveraging nuclear energy, Walmart can enhance its operational energy efficiency while maintaining environmentally responsible practices. The collaboration represents a substantial move towards reducing dependency on fossil fuels and highlights the potential of nuclear energy in supporting large-scale commercial operations with sustainable solutions.
